Thinking about Shawn Spencer, a man with an incredible eidetic memory, waking up in the hospital with no clue who he is.

The first sound he hears is the steady beep of a heart rate monitor.

Which is...strange.

As is the groggy weight holding him down, threatening to pull him back to sleep. He flexes his hand, or tries to, only managing to slighly twitch his pointer finger inside the pulse monitor, his nail connecting against the hard plastic.

"Shawn?"

A voice says above him.

"Holy shit, get the doctor--"

He tries to open his eyes but they don't cooperate. Instead, exhaustion pulls him back under, dropping him into sleep once more.

The last thing he feels is a warm hand clasping his own as he slips into darkness.

Sunlight on his face brings him back this time.

It's warm, blanketing his closed eyes and uncovered hands. The steady digital beep of the monitor from before slowly filters in as he manages to actually open his eyes this time.

Sleep remains, curled around the edges, but it's presence isn't as heavy as it was the last time he awoke.

He slowly looks around the room, squinting against the bright sun shining in from the window to his right.

To his left he sees two chairs, one with a suit jacket laid overtop of the arm, the other with a sleeping man in a salmon button up.

He looks around, seeing a drawn curtain bisecting the space, obstructing his view of his potential neighbor. At least he ended up with the window.

The man in the chair stirs slightly as the heart rate monitor changes, the beeps coming slightly faster than before.

He watches as the other man lifts his head, blinking once, twice, before his eyes widen comically and a delirious grin takes over his face.

"Shawn--Shawn! Juliet, he's awake!" The man yells as he scrambles up from the chair and makes his way to the bed.

The sound of squeaking shoes on linoleum and quick foot falls announces her arrival. A woman, blonde, dressed in a black pantsuit, jogs around the curtain while a tall, lanky man follows closely behind her. The man's grey slacks match the fabric of the suit jacket on the chair.

Based on the matching bags under their eyes, these three must have been waiting for him to wake up for awhile.

He watches as the woman's face changes, her pinched brow smoothes out as a soft smile overtakes her expression. The man behind her only looks annoyed, his blue eyes flick from the monitor to the chart at the end of the bed which he reaches for, scanning the pages silently.

"Oh Shawn, thank God," the blonde woman says as she sits down on the edge of the bed next to his knees, "how are you feeling?"

He opens his mouth and winces as the words crack and shatter in an unintelligible whisper.

The man in the salmon shirt reaches for a cup on the side table with a straw already prepped and holds it up for him to drink.

Something small in his chest twinges at the thought of how he must look, how he can't even lift his arms to do something as simple as grasp the cup in front of him. He takes three sips through the straw and hums out a sigh as the cool water soothes the sandpaper coating his throat and tongue.

He coughs once and breathes out again before trying to speak once more.

"Who the hell is Shawn?"

Psych Thoughts

So I’m halfway through S8 and I’ve had this feeling for awhile, but it’s really frustrating how they really make Shawn out to be really stupid. I remember in the first few seasons, he was super cocky and a goofball, but they still highlighted the fact that he’s incredibly intelligent and a great detective. I just feel like in the later seasons (especially after he gets together with Jules post-reveal), they just got lazy with his characters and just let him be an immature jerk all the time. 

Anyone else feel that way?

one thing about shawn spencer is he’s going to square up for the underdog. the lawyer in cloudy with a chance of murder. the bank robber in gus walks into a bank. lying ryan in truer lies. even lassiter in lassie did a bad bad thing. he will take one look at a pathetic little man and say “is anyone going to stand in front of him and protect him from evil and prove he is telling the truth despite the odds being against him?” and then not wait for an answer. you go girl, you project those self esteem issues like the king that you are 😔✊

actually it tickles me to think about how every member of the psych crew is perfectly designed to survive a zombie apocalypse regardless of its severity or flavor. even a the last of us style gritty end of the world would be no match for their belligerent plot armor and perfectly-designed basket of stupid eccentricities

Okay but why does picturing Shawn Spencer with a daughter whose mother passed away and is raising her with uncle Gus and Papa Henry make me super emotional.

Especially if the little girls other grandparents on her mother's side were a little upset about not being considered for full guardianship.

Imagine Carlton and Juliet finding out about his kiddo when they run into Shawn and Charlotte out for smoothies with Gus.

Juliet asks if this is a niece and bends down to her level to give Charlotte a little wave while Lassiter is silently cataloging all the similar facial features between Shawn and the little girl who is now hiding behind Shawn's legs.

He reaches around to pick her up and whispers something in her ear that Carlton can't quite hear.

"This is Miss Juliet and Mr Carlton, can you say hi Charlie?" Shawn says in the same soft voice, but loud enough for both Carlton and Juliet to hear this time.

Charlie shakes her head and buries it in Shawn's neck, he reaches up and strokes her curly brown hair, "sorry guys, she's a bit tired, we normally are home by now for her afternoon nap but uncle Gus insisted on smoothies".

"Um, excuse me, in what universe are you living? You absolutely wanted smoothies too--" Gus tries to interject but is cut off by a gasp from Juliet.

"Wait a second, she's yours??" Juliet blurts out, her blue eyes wide with shock, "when were you going to tell us?"

"Eventually," Shawn says cryptically after a beat.

He shifts the little girl in his arms slightly, away from the pair of Detectives, protectively for some reason, as though worried that one of them will snatch her out of Shawns arms at any moment.

"Look I can explain later, right now I have to get her home, Gus, I'll see you later".

And with that, Shawn grabs his bag from the table beside him and books it out of the smoothie place, leaving Gus with their drinks and a pair of thoroughly confused Detectives.

Okay, there’s quite a few posts about Shawn’s super obvious crush on Pierre Despereaux.

Which is awesome. But how come I never see posts about how much Pierre clearly loves the way Shawn feels about him?

He may not say anything, but his expression says it all. His self satisfied smirk whenever Shawn compliments him, calls him the coolest man alive or whatever other things his infatuated mind can come up with. The way he melts at the way Shawn looks at him, amused and flattered and so so appreciative.

And it’s clearly important to him too, not just a nice bonus. He wants, needs Shawn to adore him, to a point where he risks a lot to escape from prison for one more job. He doesn’t need the money, he’s filthy rich. It really is just to impress Shawn, to prove he really is all Shawn thought him to be. A goal he openly admits to Shawn, to his face. After having spent a lot of. money to have him come to visit him.

Now, yeah, he uses Shawn to escape from prison - but impressing Shawn is also the only reason he does that in the first place.

So - he might like to act detached, but Pierre is absolutely not normal about Shawn either. He is allowing and enabling Shawn’s teenage girl crush completely.
